Vitamins Guide : Synergy and Balance

Vitamins are essential to life and are considered as micronutrients because they are needed in relatively small amounts as compared to nutrients like proteins and water.

Some of these are water soluble and some are oil soluble.

Water-Soluble Vitamins cannot be stored and would be excreted from the body within 4 to 24 hours, which makes it even more importatnt to take them at intervals throughout the day. These include itamin C and B-Complex.

Oil-Soluble Vitamins can be stored for a slightly longer time frame as the body's fatty tissue or in the liver. These will include Vitamin A, D, E and K.

Note that both types are needed for proper body functions. You CANNOT subsituate a vitamin for another like Coffee for Tea!

Having a proper balance of vitamins and minerals is very important as scientific research has shown that excessive amounts of it can have the same results as deficiencies. ( eg. high doses of a specific kind of Vitamin B can cause other B-Complex Vitamins to deplete )

Synergy is a effect where two or more vitamins or minerals combined together to produce a greater effect or function than the sum of them acting as individuals. ( eg. For bioflavoniods to work properly, they are needed to be taken with Vitamin C )
