Basic Nutrients : Protein

Protein is essential for growth and development and it provides the body with energy and needed for the maufacture of hormones, antibodies, tissues and enzymes. It alos helps maintain the proper acid-alkali balance of the body.

When consumed, proteins are broken down into amino acids which are used as the basic building blocks of the body. Each food, contains a certain range of amino acids ( 22 in total ) which is why it is essential to consume a wide range of different kind of foods to make up for the lack in each.
