Amino Acids Guide - AntiOxidants Guide

Antioxidants are natural compounds that protect our body from the harmful free radical bombardment in our environment. These free radicals can cause damage to our cells, weaken the immune system and also lead ro infections and various degenerative diseasea such as hear disease or cancer. It maybe because of these free radicals that we age at such a rapid speed.

Most of the free redicals in our body are in the form of oxides which are formed by exposure to radiation and as well as toxic chemials like polluted air, cigarette smok or industrial and household chemicals.

However, our body does produce substances by itself to combat these free radicals and neutralize them. We can also supplement our body with other antiodiants lie vitamin C and E, caroteniods etc. These supplements are growing more and more important because our environment are becoming more hostile as time progresses because of our contant pollution.

But note that each antioxidant act differently, so it would be much better to take small doses of different types than a large dose of a single type of antioxidant. Below are a list of several different types of antioxidants.

Alpha-Lipoic Acid
Helps to both restore deactivated properties of Vitamin C and E and also acting as an antioxidant itself.
Whats more, it can stimulate the body to produce glutathione and also help in the absorption of Coenzyme Q10.
Being both water and fat soluble, it is able to enter all parts of the cells to deactivate free radicals, and have been used in to treat peripheral nerve degeneration and also control blood sugar levels and detoxify the liver from metal pollutants.

Bilberry
Bilberry is a herb that is the European version of the American Blueberry and contains natural antioxidants to help keep capillaries walls strong and healthy.
This herb has been found to provide many times that protection of what Vitamin E and C can provide and also protects the eyes and enhancing vision.

Burdock
An Antioxidant that can comabt hydrogen peroxide and superoxide radicals. Also helps in controlling cell mutation which results on cancer.

Coenzyme Q10
Very similiar to Vitamin E, having antiaging effects and also beneficial to the cardiovascular system.
This antioxidant have been known to be used to treat congestive heart failure and also cancer, AIDS, allergies, gastric ulcers, myopathy, diabetes and deafness.

Curcumin (Turmeric)
Prevents the formation of free radicals and also elimiates the existing free radicals. Helps in the stopping of precancerous transformations within the DNA and interferes with the enzymes responsible for cancer progression.
However, this should not be taken by people with biliary tract obstruction or is currently taking anticoagulants.

Flavonoids
These are what plants produce to protect themselves from parasites, bacteria and cell injury and can be found in the outer coating of the fruit. Some flavornoids have even greater antioxidanting powers than C, E or carotenes!.
And flavonoids protect these antioxidant vitamines from being damaged by free radicals. ( eg. Browning of apples when you cut it open )

Garlic
Garlic detoxifies peroxides and helps prevent fats from being oxidized and deposited in the tissues and arteries and it also contain antioxidant vitamins like Vitamin A and C.

Ginkgo Biloba
A herb that has powerful antioxidant effects in the brain , retina and cardiovascular system.

Glutathione
A protein produced in the liver from csteine, glutamic acid and glycine and protects the cells from cellular damage from free radicals.
It also helps to defend the body against the damage caused by cigarette smoking, exposure to radiation, chemotherapy and other toxins like alcohol.

Polyphenol (Green tea)
Found in green tea, polyphenol found in green tea was found to be able to penetrate the body's cells and shell the DNA from free radical bombardment.
Green tea are just dried tea leaves from the tea plant, Black tea on the other hand have underwent natural fermentation which destroys most of the polyphenol present rendering it a weaker antioxidant.

Melatonin
This is a hormone that is able to take out free radicals and as well as singular oxygen atoms in the body.
It is also able to permeate any cell in the body and are one of the few that can enter the cell's mitochondria and protect these energy producting stations from being destroyed.

Methionine
This is an Amino Acid that is able to neutralize hydroxyl radicals

Others include :
N-Acetylcysteine (NAC)
Nicotinamide Adeline Dinucleotide
Oligomeric Proanthocyanidins
Selenium
Silymarin
Superoxide Dismutase
Vitamin A & Carotenoids
Vitamin C
Vitamin E
Zinc
